STATE POLITICS & POLICY | Ohio House Approves Bill That Would Allow Women Seeking Abortion To View Ultrasound Image
[Dec. 14, 2007]

The Ohio General Assembly on Wednesday voted to approve a bill (HB 314) that would require physicians to offer a woman seeking an abortion the option of viewing an ultrasound image of her fetus before undergoing the procedure, the AP/Akron Beacon Journal reports (Majors, AP/Akron Beacon Journal, 12/12). If the woman decides to have an ultrasound, the physician would be required to show her the "active ultrasound image of the embryo or fetus," as well as provide the woman with a physical picture of the ultrasound image (HB 314 text, 12/14).

The measure, which passed the House with no debate, still needs Senate approval, the AP/Beacon Journal reports. Lawmakers recessed after Wednesday's session and will reconvene on Jan. 9 (AP/Akron Beacon Journal, 12/12).
